Composing email disappeared

Hi

I am using an iPhone 8 Plus and was composing a reply to an email address I had tapped on from a news report. At the end, I needed to check one spelling so used lookup which took me out to another screen and now I cannot find the original email. It is not in drafts. Any ideas gratefully received - it was quite long!
