Unable to backup iPhone- error message

Trying to backup iPhone and a message keeps popping up saying unable to backup iPhone, ‘need to delete the backup for iPhone in device preferences’


I am using a windows laptop

When backing up your iPhone, iTunes generally does incremental backups. "An incremental backup is one in which successive copies of the data contain only the portion that has changed since the preceding backup copy was made". (Wikipedia) That being said, it sounds as though your previous backup may be corrupt, and needs to be deleted before you can continue.

Open iTunes > Preferences > Devices and then delete your previous backup.
