Apple Watch set up

I am trying to pair the watch to the iPhone and it has been saying “checking for updates” for about 1 hour to an hour and a half. Is this normal? I also tried to start over and it’s not working.

When I try to pair and update it VIA app, it says the update cannot be completed and that there is an error. I cannot use the watch until it is updated. What’s wrong? Unable to set up Apple Watch series 3 Hi have bought a second hand Apple Watch Series 3 I am attempting to pair the watch to my iPhone 13. The watch is saying need updating gets to preparing and then disconnects. Watch is on charge and phone connected to Wi-Fi and next to watch. is anyone able to help this issue.
