Suddenly have a problem with my Gmail account in Mail.
If I remove it, Mail functions perfectly normally. If I add it, I then get a connection error in iCloud Mail as below. Why should a Gmail account cause a connection error in iCloud mail and how do I fix this?

Hi - after a LOOOONG chat with Apple Support, we've discovered that it seems to be a corrupt User.
I've created a new User account, and all seems to be well.
Sorry for the delay - been v busy!
It's not just having a Gmail account in Mail.
This is the result of running the Connection Doctor today:
