Messages going to iPad and not iPhone when I’m out

Hello,

So I have my ipad synced up with my iphone so that I can replay to text messages and imessages on my iPad key board. When I’m out getting groceries and my daughter texts me from home her message go to my ipad at home through iMessage and not to my iPhone through text message. I’d still like to have the two synced but need to get my messages on my iphone when not connected to the internet.
