I do not like the split screen in the email app. On the left is the list of emails, but one is always open on the right. I would like to see just the list of emails as full screen and then the email be full screen when I open it.

Sorry, there is no way to configure this in the native mail app the way you want. If you don't like the native mail app, perhaps look in the App Store for an alternative app you might like better.
