Why won't my videos from my laptop go to imovie?

So I made some videos on my phone then airdropped them to my laptop to edit. I tried to drag and drop them into imovie like normal, but it wouldn't let me. I put them into photos to see if that worked, but no change. Can someone help me out here?

My iPhone videos Previously, I could take videos on my phone, move them to my MBP and edit them with iMovie. It was all seamless and really good. This was while back but this seamless functionality is something I have come to expect. Somehow this functionality has gone, I move the file to my MBP, I can view it in Qucktime but iMovie won't open the file. Am I doing something wrong or have Apple stitched up editing movies on my MBP even if they are from one of their own devices?

Try dragging the videos to your desktop first, and from there drag into iMovie.
