System is taking too much storage!

Hi,

I own MacBook Pro 256GB (13-inch, 2017) bought in 2018. I am running out of space recently, even though according to Mac's info I have 15GB of Apps, 10GB movies, 8GB photos. The rest is taken by ''System'', see screenshot below.

What is it? How to clear it?

Advices from web (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206996) don't help.

Thanks in advance,

Petra

You have not told us which advice you accepted from that article.

For example, have you selected "Optimize Mac Storage"? Do you have purgeable storage?

Hi,

to be specific:

  • iCloud => I store my Desktop on iCloud (I don't use other iCloud apps)
  • Optimize Storage => is marked as Completed
  • Empty Trash Automatically => off, but I empty my Trash almost every day
  • Reduce Clutter => Empty
  • I don't use iTunes
  • Delete files that you no longer need => done
  • Move files to an external drive => done (and done regularly)
  • Delete unneeded email => emails in my clients are not that big, I keep those

Not sure what else I can to. Any help will be appreciated.
