Quick fix for Spotlight indexing issue on high Sierra

All I did on my MacBook pro retina is... Launch the "terminal app" (under applications > utilities > terminal)

and type the following:

Step1:

sudo mdutil -s /

step2:

sudo mdutil -i on /

Spotlight magically started indexing again.

Thought it would be good to share this in case anyone has the nightmare I went through to fix this.

Spotlight not re-indexing or finding anything. Search suddenly stopped working in Calendar. So I tried forcing a rebuild of spotlight indexing - by excluding the HD and then including it again. (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201716) Now Spotlight does not show any results from my drive/files/documents. I desperation I ran the terminal script I found suggested (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7913794) but it has made no difference: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain u -domain s -domain l -v What can I do now? Thanks for any help. Running High Sierra. Don't remember making any changes between when search last worked and stopped.

Problems with Spotlight on Monterey Hello everyone. I just got a new MacBook Pro M1 Max with Monterey on it, and I am having a problem with Spotlight. I have been a Mac user for the past 30 years, and since Spotlight was launched, I have been able to both show the location of the file by holding down the COMMAND key and go to the folder where the file is located by holding down the COMMAND key and clicking on the file itself. With this new version of MacOS (Monterey 12.2.1) I can no longer do that. The file path is not shown when I hold the COMMAND key while a file is selected, and if I click on a file by holding the COMMAND key, Spotlight just opens the file. Any thoughts on that? Is there anything I must set or change to make that happen again? The way it is now Spotlight is 50% useless for me. Thank you in advance for any thoughts!
