how to idetify a keyboard for MBP 10,1 mid 2012?

I had a keyboard exchanged and it appeared to be an Australian mapped keyboard which made me change the input for the keyboard. But if I had known, I would have chosen a US ansi layout. Physically the boards are identical but the mapping seems different. There is no code or other identifier to be found.

Could any one please explain how to distinguise the right keyboard?

Moreover is is even more complicated because Apple does not produce parts for the old machines anymore.

US and "Australian" keyboards are normally the same ANSI type, so it's is probably something else, perhaps British or International English if ISO instead.

If there are keys which produce something different than what is printed on them on the screen, provide a few specifics.

Yes, they’re all ANSI not many ISO keyboards left.

The are identical except for the mapping. It is apparently a difference in the cable. But to come back to the question: does any person have an idea how to determine US or AU?

once it is connected, it is easy because the special characters like, ]{|^* are different and to adjust, the keyboard input in preferences has to be changed to AU or US depending on the keyboard. That’s all, nothing big but in communicating with my iPhone the language had to be set to US English as the KB automatically assumed that it should be AU English.

Key mappings are determined by system settings, not the cable. What MacOS version are you running? What do you have in system settings for input sources?

US and AU keyboard mappings are normally exactly the same. If ]{|^* are somehow different, please tell us what is being produced instead of those characters, in the same order,.

A picture of your keyboard would be helpful, to make sure we are not talking about some non-standard layout.

Those are language settings. They normally do not have anything to do with keyboard mappings, only with spellcheck.
