iOS Speak Screen skips quotes in Books, Safari Reader

The "Speak Screen" accessibility feature frequently skips words, phrases, and sentences in quotes when they begin a new paragraph. I have noticed this behavior in the Books app and in Safari reader mode on ios 26.1.

For example, if a paragraph says:

"Let's get out of here," Jack says as it starts to rain. Neither of them have umbrellas.

All that is read out is

Jack says as it starts to rain. Neither of them have umbrellas.

This is frustrating as entire parts of conversations get skipped over.
