My iPhone (17) can send group imessages to my wife and son, but doesn't receive the replies. I have deleted the group message thread and re-established it; toggled imessages off and on; checked my imessage settings to ensure they were coming to the phone number, and not to my apple id. I am at a loss.

Turn OFF “Send & Receive” email addresses on alldevices
Even if you checked your iPhone, the problem is very often caused by another device (iPad/Mac) being registered incorrectly.
On iPhone, iPad, and Mac:
Go to iMessage settings → Send & Receive
Turn OFF everything except:
✔ Your phone number
Your Apple ID email must NOT be checked on your other devices for this specific bug, or replies may be routed only to those devices and not to your iPhone 17.
Why this works:
Group threads use the same identity for all devices. A mismatch causes only half the thread to reach your phone.
