Older IMAC picture Migration to another storage device

Have an older IMAC that I need to recycle from 2011, however, has lots of pictures and imovies which are wanted to save. How do I remove them to an outside storage option to take off IMAC before sending to recycle. I have trouble finding where the pictures are stored on IMAC to move to another storage option.

If you're working against time, use Carbon Copy Cloner or a similar app to clone all the data on the iMac drive to an external drive for storage until you have time to go searching for those old files. Note that there are several versions of CCC, and which you'll need to download depends on the OS running on the iMac.

You can then immediately wipe the iMac and recycle it.

After that you can use any number of apps or even a macOS tool like Spotlight to locate your pics and vids.
