macOS Tahoe: External drive inaccessible and First Aid failed

After updating to the new Tahoe 26.1 on my iMac, I cannot access my external drive (called the iTunes/G-DRIVE) anymore where I have stored all my downloaded music (using Apple Cloud as well, but not for downloads).

I've tried First Aid, but to no avail. Unmounting and mounting the disk gives me the following message: "masOS can't repair the disk > you can still open and copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can." Also the following message "Attempting to copy to disk iTunes-:G-DRIVE failed. An unknown error occurred (100030)." Screenshot attached is when First Aid was attempted, but failed.

Sounds like your drive has failed.

You can always check with G-DRIVE for some firmware update if in doubt(?)

search the developers website or contact their: Support/Help/FAQ/Known issues/compatibility/updates…

the rule of thumb If you value your user data

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.

More than one device, more than one backup methodology— and backup regularly.
