Email constantly downloading tens of thousands of messages

I have seen a few questions like this recently and I haven't seen a fix or work around for it. My only suggestion and it may or may not work is remove the email address from Mail and renter it. I might also suggest that if you have that many emails I would probably delete the ones you don't need.
