Subject: Faint Vertical Line Appearing in Claude App on iPad

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed a faint vertical line appearing near the center of the screen when I use the Claude app on my iPad. The line does not align with any UI element—it’s thin, light, and shows up over the content (not as part of the split-screen artifacts divider or any visible panel boundary).

A few key details:

- The line appears only in the Claude app and is visible in screenshots, so it seems to be software-rendered, not a sign of a cracked or damaged screen.

- It remains in the same place regardless of scrolling or moving content.

- Restarting the app does not always resolve the issue.

- I haven’t seen the same artifact in other apps.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known bug, or does anyone have troubleshooting tips beyond standard restarts? Should I report it directly to Anthropic, and if so, how?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight!

Try deleting the offending App from your iPad - then perform a forced-restart prior to reinstalling the App from the App Store.

If the problem persists with the App, you'll need to seek assistance from the associated App Developer:

Not so.

A basic shutdown/restart - and forced restart - are entirely different in effect...

Shutdown saves the current program/App states - and will reload saved-state upon restart. By contrast, a forced restart does not save the current state - and instead causes Apps and services to be fully reinitialised "clean" as they are accessed.

As such, a forced restart will clear and reset faulting processes - including the iPad's network stack.

No, you should not force quit an iPad rather than restart it; instead, you should only force quit an app if it is misbehaving. Forcing apps to close frequently is unnecessary and can actually decrease performance and battery life. A full restart is a better option than habitually closing apps to fix an issue or when an app freezes, but force-restarting is best used as a last resort when the iPad is unresponsive.

Not disputed. The OP reports a problem with the App; therefore it may be necessary to fully reinitialise a faulting App or process, requiring a forced-restart. A simple shutdown and restart as you advocate will preserve a faulting state - not clear it.

Not disputed. Unnecessary closing and restating an App does require more power than simply resuming a paused App. The only impact to performance is taking marginally longer to open the App.
