Accessibility Keyboard Glitch

Mac Studio M1, 64gb, OS Tahoe 26.1

Hi

Something very weird has happened to the accessibility keyboard since the update. I use it a lot, as in all the time, for everything, so this is a big deal for me.

Basically it changes size randomly. I will try to define that. Sometimes it changes size after I click one of the suggestions in the top line, sometimes when I just click one of the letters, and once or twice when I have clicked something else on the screen. Additionally, even though I have made my own custom panel which includes a suggestions toolbar above the regular top line of keys, the whole suggestion toolbar often disappears completely, and then comes back when I start typing - fine, I can see how that is deliberate behaviour, but when the toolbar appears it makes the keyboard jump position on my screen, and typing quickly means I hit a different key.

All of this is immensely frustrating, and it's slowing down my work.

Anyone else had this problem?

It took me a long time to perfect this keyboard, and I don't really want to go through that again.

PS. Voice dictation is still awful, and I hate the AI prediction, and the way it prioritises and transposes words from my contacts, instead of just typing what I say

Hi Vertigo13,

Re: Accessibility Keyboard Glitch : Mac Studio M1, 64gb, OS Tahoe 26.1

Am no expert in this area, yet your post to the community deserves some response.

Commiserations! You are obviously way more famiiar with the use of the accessibility keyboard than many.

Sorry you are having such a time with it currently.

You are likely already familiar with Apple Support's online aticle for MacOS 26:

Use the Accessibility Keyboard on Mac - Apple Support

Eg: says you can:

"Resize the Accessibility Keyboard

While you’re using the Accessibility Keyboard on your Mac, do any of the following:

  • Make the keyboard bigger or smaller: Drag a corner of the keyboard.
  • To resize it without keeping the proportions, click  in the top-right corner of the keyboard, then choose Resize Proportionally (to remove the tick).
  • Reset the keyboard to the default size: Click  in the top-right corner of the keyboard, choose Zoom, then choose 100%.

So it seems, as the keyboard is resizing without being set to do so, that sending feedback to reach those who work on the software behind-the-scenes at Apple may be the thing to do. They may or may not respond, but your feedback will be carefully read and logged, and if others have a similar issue, we may see an update that addresses the issue.

The more feedback they receive on which hardware models and software versions are affected, the more likely we will see an update that fixes things. You could provide a link to this discussion if you wish.

To provide feedback about an accessibility feature on an Apple product,

you can email the Accessibility team: accessibility@apple.com.

Apple support provides this article for iOS26: If Dictation on Mac doesn’t work as expected - Apple Support

It didn't seem much help with your particular issues though:

If not already: Wondering whether using Voice Control for Dictation would be a good experiment to see if it helps.

There's a useful third-party (non-Apple) video about that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNRUVp1t-uI'

(Eg: says you can turn off some unneeded features.)

________

If needed: you might want to reach out to the Accessibility support team: ie: for help with an Accessibility feature.
