Contact loss on iPhone 15 Pro Max operating on iOS26

I have an iPhone 15 pro max that is operating on iOS26. everything was working fine but now in the last week I have suddenly started losing contacts that were saved on my phone very randomly. this is really causing havoc. please help.

I wanted to add that I first noticed this on WhatsApp, when I could not find a chat that I used to send messages to regularly. Then on going to my contacts, it came up with the contact name and no poster but the number said it was found by siri. So I had to resave it.
