MacBook Air Mail: Google emails reorder, delay moving

Recently I've had random emails that have been in my MacBook Air Inbox for several days suddenly move to the top with revised arrival days/times. For example, an email that arrived four days ago is now showing as having arrived this afternoon. There have also been occasional delays in moving emails from my Inbox into folders. They don't disappear until I leave the Inbox and then return. These emails are to a Google address. My iPhone is synced with my laptop, but the emails are staying where they belong on the phone. So the problem is with the laptop. Everything I've seen about syncing issues between Google and MacMail are for problems that happen consistently. This is occasional. Any suggestions? Thanks.
