Apple One trial: Mac iTunes library cloud merge concerns

Just signed up for Apple One free trial and it wants to merge my Mac iTunes library into a cloud library. I have 500-600 albums on my Mac (and lots of manhrs putting them there). Will my current library remain intact on my Mac? I am afraid that if I do the merge and decide I want to cancel Apple One after my trial month, all of music files will only be in the cloud or worse - lost. Any danger of that?

Yes. If you are super careful, the streaming subscription will not affect your local library. However, this Forum frequently hears from sad folks who found (or think they found) that it did. Make a backup of your 500-600 albums before you do anything, so that you can restore them if something goes awry..
