Apple Mail cursor gets stuck when editing email replies

When replying to an email in Apple Mail, my curser gets stuck in the upper left corner of the email when trying to edit my typing reply. This happens with every reply and only with a reply, not a fresh email. It starts out normal as I type. Then the first time I try to move the curser to edit, it gets stuck in the upper left corner of the email and will not move.

Remove the original formatting before replying

When replying:

  1. Click anywhere in your reply
  2. Press:
  3. Command + A (select all)
  4. Command + Shift + T
  5. (Remove Quote Level)

or:

Format → Remove Quote Level

This forces Mail to strip the HTML and rebuild the editor from clean text.

Most users report this solves the cursor lock completely.
