Magic Trackpad haptic feedback not working after Tahoe 26.1

After updating to macOS Tahoe 26.1, the haptic “Force Touch” feedback on my Magic Trackpad stopped working entirely.

I first noticed this on my work MacBook Pro (16” 2021), so I tested it on my personal MacBook Pro (16” 2024) as well — same issue on both.

I checked all the settings on both machines:

  • Haptic feedback is turned on
  • “Force Click and haptic feedback” is enabled
  • Trackpad sensitivity is normal

I also tried the usual troubleshooting steps:

  • Forgot and re-paired the Magic Trackpad
  • Restarted both Macs
  • Searched for support articles, but everything I found was for older macOS versions — nothing specific to Tahoe yet

Has anyone else run into this since updating? Any solutions I might have missed?

I have not experienced this, haptic feedback and force click are working normally on both the internal trackpad of my 16” M4 pro MacBook Pro (26.1) and on the external magic trackpad that I use in clamshell mode.

See if the problem is present when you boot in safe mode, which disables 3rd party extensions and performs some system cleanup.
