I have an IMac running MacOS Sequoia 15.7.2 and want to view the "Start" menu to check if an application I am trying to use for the 1st time has been switched on. Can you help please?

Command-Tab will tell you the apps that are running.
Also running apps are listed in the Dock with a small . (dot) under the application icon if the app is actually running.
Unless you mean a daemon or similar background process, then
Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> View (menu) -> All Processes -> CPU (tab)
and you can use the search box to search for your background process.

MacOS has no "Start" menu. That is a feature of Microsoft's Windows OS.
However, @den.thed has pointed you in the direction of Login Items which is a list of applications that will be launched when you boot your Mac and log in to your Mac user account. Applications may be added and removed from this list at any time by the user with administrative permission.
