FireWire dropped in Tahoe?

I had heard that Tahoe would not support FireWire and thus would be unable to import DV movies. I replied as such here:

DV Tape importing from Panasonic NV-GS300 - Apple Community

Has anybody confirmed that this is indeed the case? I have not yet imported my DV tapes, so I am not about to try it and find out. 8^)

Yes, several reports I found confirm that macOS 26 Tahoe removed native FireWire support. If you update to Tahoe and try plugging in a MiniDV camcorder via FireWire (even with adapters), the system simply won’t recognize it.

If you rely on a FireWire workflow (like importing DV tapes), you’ll likely need to keep a Mac running an earlier version of macOS (such as Sequoia or earlier) or use an external machine dedicated to that task.

If you haven’t yet tried importing your tapes, now might be a good time to do it before upgrading to Tahoe (if you plan to).
