Apple TV update caused missing apps and internet issues

Not really a question more like a complaint to see if others feel my pain. Currently using 2 of the latest Appletvs. Installed the latest version on one, got off to a rough start. The time remaining increased to 56 hours and counting, no jokes. Eventually I decided to do a restart the device and try again. Boom, update was completed successfully. Kool. On to the next one. Started fine, completed the upgrade quickly, no issues. Then when I went to the home screen, no App Store app, some other system app missing, banner says no internet with a warning sign even though I’m using a stream app, vpn app starts no connection. Just jacked up. Only thing I haven’t tried is factory resetting the device and man I really don’t want to do that. Thanks for listening.

Yes, VPN was active for both. As far as restrictions, yes the unit that failed was setup with restrictions while the other wasn’t…probably made all the difference. It dawned on me one day that if my device was stolen, they would have full access to everything. Instead of Apple locking down the entire device with one set of credentials, a user has to access every flippin app to set restrictions. Beyond ridiculous. Thanks for the feedback back. Will definitely hit them up while I work through trying to repair this thing.
