Apple TV app: 'Continue Watching' fails on smart TVs

Apple TV app on LG TV - continue watching feature doesn't work. It does track what was watched, but have to manually start after every episode.

Deselected continue play, restarted app, re-selected continue play, and restarted app. Still not working. Deleted and reinstalled/re-signed in and still not working.

Same issue on Vizio TV app.

We have an old Apple TV unit and that works correctly as does my phone.

Is this a known issue on the app for smart TVs?
