How to downgrade macOS to 26.0.1 to fix DisplayLink and audio issues?

My Mac upgraded to 26.1 last night. This broke Display Link and neither of my external monitors are working. This is a huge problem for me as I'm a software developer and I need the extra real estate. I also wear hearing aids and the audio on my docking port is no longer working, which I need to be able to hear. I've looked around Reddit and a lot of others are having this issue.

I've seen some other posts on this issue and the solutions are usually "check your cable" - all of this had been working fine for months until yesterday when the upgrade happened. The upgrade is absolutely what broke Display Link.

How can I downgrade to 26.0.1?

"How can I downgrade to 26.0.1?"

You can’t unless you have a bootable clone with 26.0.1 installed. Time Machine only restores your data, not macOS. If you erase and reinstall you will wind up with 26.1. Better to contact DisplayLink support and ask about an update or troubleshooting the issue.

Have you tried restarting or booting into Safe Mode to test?

have you re-enabled your USB devices, including DisplayLink devices?

Since macOS Ventura 13, USB Restricted Mode protection is enabled by default on Apple Silicon MacBooks.

This requires users to explicitly allow new USB peripherals, including products using DisplayLink technology.
