Why did my MacBook cursor turn red on Sonoma

Hi, earlier today something weird happened while I was using my Macbook (Sonoma operating system). Instead of the usual black cursor with a white outline, my cursor was red. I managed to change it back by playing with my Display options. But I'm just wondering what made it turn red. I wasn't doing anything at the time--the laptop just booted up as usual and everything was normal, except my cursor was red. Could this be a virus (I haven't seen any other signs of anything like that), or did some setting get mixed up when my laptop started?

Something odd and unexplainable happened

As for Viruses ?

Windows-like viruses that self-replicate and affect macOS don’t exist because of the underlying UNIX Foundation and permission limitations.

The macOS operating system resides in a sealed and read-only volume that can’t be opened by users or third-party applications.

Mac app security enhancements are sufficient to protect computers from malware.

Adware and Malware can affect computers and are often downloaded from “shady” websites or developers who inject them into downloads.
