2021 MacBook Pro 16” M1 Pro display horizontal lines first, now screen dead.

Hi, I have a 2021 M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16” which has seen extremely light use with only 80/1000 charge cycles so far. My Mac is in pristine condition, no bumps, scratches, dents, blemishes, drops or liquid damage what so ever - extremely well looked after with minimal use.

2 weeks ago I started getting horizontal lines appearing, first lower third of screen, then this disappeared, then upper third of screen the problem returned and got worse. I can see ‘remnants’ on the right hand side of the screen where the problem is originating from. This morning the screen suddenly went dead completely during use. Force restart produces a Mac chime, but nothing on screen apart from the crystal remnants down the right hand side of the screen with the rest remaining completely dark.

Plugging in external monitor via HDMI produces normal picture on external monitor.

Having done a quick search online, it appears this model has this issue with some people usually around 2 years into use. With mine having had really light use so far, I am thinking this problem has no hit me.

Apple don’t have a recall for this issue.

anyone else have this with their 2021 M1 Pro 16” laptop? The estimated repair cost quoted to me by Apple sounds like it is for a replacement screen at around 800£.

Needless to say I am very upset about this.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 26.1
