Replaced the battery, bought a new 20W charger. Plugged in the mage safe and let it “charge” for an hour.

when I press the power button it chimes, I see my Yosemite screen for a second and it goes dark.

Charging a Yosemite-Compatible Mac with MagSafe:

You Can't: Your Mac Model is incompatible with use of a MagSafe charger. So, if this battery is intended for this, then do not expect it to work, as all else is soldered into the LogicBoard. You Mac's charge is being put on hold. So, you're going to go the olde fashioned way, and use the original charger, or one made for this.

  1. Go here: Charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Charge with MagSafe 3
  3. As it Reads: These Mac laptops can charge with MagSafe 3:
  • MacBook Air introduced in 2022 or later
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later
