medium app not working

Medium app and website both are not working on my iPad. Tried using Safari and chrome. It doesn’t work on both. Tried changing the network, It doesn’t work. Gives an SSL issue, please suggest.

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer and means that the website you are trying to access, and also using the app, is attempting to access a server that is not secure. This is usually due to an expired Certificate that can only be resolved by the owner of the site and would suggest you contact them.


By looking on their webpage, they do have a page for tracking problems with their services.

If you are from India, they have made a note of access restrictions there:

We're receiving reports of issues accessing Medium from users in India. Unfortunately, Medium has no control over blocks that happen on ISP (Internet Service Provider) level. This is unrelated to the recent global AWS outage issue. We urge you to contact your ISP directly and report the problem.

Your Windows laptop may connect to a website without the proper Certificate to ensure a secure connection using SSL, where your Apple devices will not connect to an unsecured site as the information provided there could be compromised.


Medium has even updated their Status Page since what I posted yesterday. This may also help in your case and if your Windows Laptop is using a different DNS could explain why you are able to connect there.


If you are having issues connecting to Medium from India, we recommend changing the DNS address on your devices to replace your ISP’s DNS (like Airtel, Jio, or Vi) with a public resolver such as:

  • Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
  • Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

If you have a VPN installed on your Apple devices, that may also be a problem and those should be removed, not simply shut off.

Sure, thanks. Mac, this is helpful and yes I am based out of India. I did raise a ticket with my ISP. The thing is. It’s only an issue with my Apple products(IPAD, Phone). Thanks again Mac for the response. Well my Windows laptop is hardened, I checked the certificate details, the connection is secure & certificate is valid. Certainly, the issue is with all my Apple devices. The Site or app works on android phone as well. I tried changing the DNS on my iPad & It doesn’t work too. Lastly, I don’t have any VPN installed.


Not sure it is with Apple or with Medium, but I need this to get resolved.
