Stuck in 100-year boot loop after manual time change on iPad

In an attempt to clear my system data, I followed advice to set my time to 'manual' and advance it >100 years into the future, then perform a hard reset.

I did this, but now I am stuck in a bootloop. What gives? Are there steps I can take that don't involve losing my data?

You followed very bad advice, on the same level as advice to fast charge your iPhone in a microwave. Wherever you got that advice, never go to that site again.

You will have to restore your iPhone using DFU mode, then reload your most recent backup.

You may need to try several times, as the timing is very tricky.

Because it never occurred to them that someone would do that. You can tell Apple about this→Product Feedback - Apple, and they might add a check for this in a future release. But there are an infinite number of ways that a user might do something unexpected; finding all of them is impossible.

Data that you didn’t back up will be lost. Bu that’s also true if your iPhone was lost, stolen, dropped in a toilet, or thrown under a bus.
