Restoring a playlist from a backup on an external ssd drive

Need to restore an old play list from a backup on an external SSD drive. All the attempts and all of the hints and suggestions available to me haven’t done anything to help me. Running Mac Tahoe, but backup was on on an earlier Operating System. Help.
