Tap top of screen to scroll to top” gesture not working correctly on iPad Pro M4 (iPadOS 26.1)

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed a strange issue on my iPad Pro 11” M4 running iPadOS 26.1. The usual “tap the top of the screen to scroll to top” gesture no longer works reliably.

  • Tapping the very top (status bar area) often does nothing.

  • If I tap about 3–4 cm below the top edge, the scroll-to-top action works.

  • This happens across all apps (Safari, Mail, Settings, etc.) — so it seems system-wide.

  • Restarting the iPad or toggling Reachability on/off doesn’t fix it permanently.

  • On my iPhone running iOS 26.1, the gesture works normally.

It seems like a bug in iPadOS 26.1 affecting the touch mapping of the top gesture zone on iPad Pro M4.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any workarounds until Apple releases a fix?

I have not, as yet, encountered swipe-issues or functional considerations that differ from earlier production releases of iPadOS 26.x.

Clearly, at this time, iPadOS 26.1 has been available for less than 24 hours. I and other users may uncover additional considerations (and/or workarounds) as we have opportunity to more thoroughly test this new version.

Visible differences in this iPadOS update are, to my assessment, focussed mainly upon Liquid Glass and its implementation. This version adds an additional control for this UI feature - and makes some other changes to how the UI interacts with (and to the detriment of) Accessibility settings for Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast.
