Music randomly mutes when using carplay

When using wired CarPlay on my 2017 Honda civic the music randomly stops, but doesn’t pause and the volume isn’t muted. It simply stops playing and seems to restart when it gets to the next song. Occasionally it also crashes the CarPlay and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it working. It is very consistent - seems to be one in every 2/3 songs and about 30 seconds in usually.
