Recovering data after factory reset on water-damaged MacBook

I got my laptop sent off to get repaired for water damage. I was asked to factory reset before it got sent off. I have gotten it back but have zero idea how to get my old stuff back.

Did you back it up before you reset it? If so, see Restore your Mac from a backup - Apple Support

Was data, photos, etc synced with iCloud? If so, turn on the same iCloud sync settings and that information will automatically resync with the Mac. See: Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

and Store files in iCloud Drive on Mac - Apple Support

and Store files in iCloud Drive on Mac - Apple Support

and see other iCloud options in the same settings area.

Finding Lost Data:

If you cannot locate data, then it is gone, if not backed up. So, look in a place would would have backed it up to. Elsewise, it is gone. For example, here is how you would troubleshoot Photos and Videos:

Locating Lost Photos and Videos:

I. Enable Photos and Contacts in iCloud:

On the iPhones, enable Contacts in iCloud.

On the iPhone:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Your Name (Top Item)
  3. Tap: iCloud
  4. Tap: Photos (so that it is green)
  5. Tap: Contacts (so that it is green)

II. Troubleshooting Deleted Photos:

Three Things to Try:

A. Start here: If you're Missing Photos or Videos in the Photos App - Apple Support

B. Check iCloud, Directly:

Go here, and see if they reside in iCloudhttps://www.icloud.com/photos

C. Where Else to Check:

  1. PC
  2. PDA
  3. eMail
  4. Mac Device
  5. Cloud Storage
  6. Android Phone
  7. USB Flash Drive
  8. External Hard drive
  9. Secure Digital Card
  10. Compact Flash Card
