Help identifying a mid-2015 MacBook Pro drive (A1398)

I recently had the internal SSD drive removed from my mid-2015 MacBook Pro, model number A1398, as the computer is non-functional.

My plan had simply been to buy one of the many adapters out there for Mac drives, but I’m struggling to identify what type of drive I have. The arrangement of the pins is inconsistent with the other examples online, and there’s nothing else on it which immediately clues me in to its format.

Here are some images of the front and back:

Have a newer (secondhand) MacBook and am hoping to transfer the data over using the “system disk” option, but until I know what adapter I need I’m stuck.

@leroydouglas (unsure how to reply properly as quoting doesn’t seem to work on mobile), thank you for the suggestion.

I spoke to their customer support and they suggested a OWC Envoy Pro 1A, which costs about $60 (unsure what it converts to in pounds), but I would still like to know what my drive is so I can look at all the options out there.

?

OEM Samsung  PCIe/NVMe SSD drive for mid-2015

I would not recommend some off brand / Amazon Saturday night special.

I would go no further macsales/OWC is well ahead of the curve all things Mac.

Apple used Proprietary drives in these Macs, and changed the form factor and interface often. You will not find a commodity drive that can serve as a direct replacement .

OWC/Macsales engineered several of their own drives, to serve as direct replacements. They also sell a small selection of compatible external enclosures, sometimes available bundled with a new drive.

There are some very strong restrictions for what MacOS needs to be have been installed (to get the required Firmware updates) before switching over. That updated firmware is stored on a private store on the processor card, not on any drive. Once that firmware has been updated by the installation of the required version of MacOS, the old drive can be removed with impunity.
