Apple USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter on Macbook Pro disconnects / crashes

I use the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (ordered from the Apple Store) to direct sound from my MacBook Pro M1 (macOS Sequoia 15.7.1) to an external amplifier + speakers.

After a period of time (could be hours, days weeks), the adapter randomly disconnects and remains disconnected. The resolution is simple, just replug the adapter. However, it is quite frustrating as it often occurs in the middle of video calls when I am presenting so I suddenly lose sound mid-way through.

Other USB-connected devices such as mouse, camera and monitor remain unaffected.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar and is there any resolution? Are other brands of USB DAC more stable or is this a macOS issue?
