Touch Bar issue on MacBook Pro

ive got an m2 pro 13". i may be dumb but i think some of the system files may be corrupt?? probably not. but heres my reasons: touchbarserver = dead. in activity monitor, it shows as running but doing nothing (0 perecent cpu usage or smth). restarting temperairly fixes the issue, but then it stops working again. nothing turned off in settings or anything. also, it doesnt mount external devices anymore. tried my sandisk? nope. it shows up with the "allow this accessory to connect?" for like 0.1 seconds. i thought it was an issue with the pendrive, but when i tried to connect an ipod classic to it to add music it did the exact thing. i dunno if this has anything to do with it but it always seems to.. mess up restores. it gets stuck on 75 percent finished restore and the device just shows as not restoring. i cant eject the disk in disk utility it shows up as a random name and cant force eject or anything. i have to pull the wire forcing the restoring device to restart and sometimes corrupt and relaunch finder. files also show up as wierd icons as well. for example, a movie shows as a disk. a jpg shows as an application, ect. along with the apps like app store sometimes showing up as a ternimal icon. does anyone know whats wrong with it?? this has been happening on sonoma and tahoe, but ALOT worse on macos26.

FYI, you can go into the Privacy & Security System Settings and change the "Accessories" setting to "Always when unlocked" so you should no longer be prompted for confirmation when connecting devices. I changed my laptop's setting to this when those pop-up notices quickly disappeared or I never even saw them (sometimes they would be hidden behind another window). For me, the setting proposed doesn't affect security since I would be clicking "Allow" anyway for any devices I am connecting while I am logged into the laptop.

This "Accessories" setting is located near the bottom of the Privacy & Security Settings section.

It sounds like you have been having system issues for a while and by upgrading to Tahoe, you have just made the problem worse. You still have all the pre-existing issues with Sonoma plus all of the new compatibility issues & bugs associated with Tahoe. You should have resolved the pre-existing issues while still running Sonoma. Installing minor OS upgrade patches is fine since they are meant to resolve known issues with an OS. A major OS upgrade is meant to introduce new changes....sometimes drastic changes.....you never want drastic changes when troubleshooting a problem.

More than likely you have an issue with some third party software. Run the third party app EtreCheck and post the complete report here so we can examine it for clues.

hi! thank you for the info, the device was an ipod nano 3. also, the thing with the icons has been happening since sequoia. what i meant by restore is, it cannot seem to reinstall the software back onto the ipod. it gets stuck doing and locks the eject. i haven’t tried it with any other devices as the ipod restore has leaded me to not trust the mac for things like that. thanks for the help!

ive also noticed recently that my dock has just started randomly vanquishing and requiring me to open an app and force quit it for it to come back?? or quit works, I really don't know. but the main thing its just started doing is not letting me drag and drop. tried with an image to desktop and it just didnt go there. tried putting something into a folder and it showed the little new animation to show it went in but in the folder the file was nowhere to be found

btw this is not just a touchbar problem this is a system problem. finder has completely stopped working - whenever i try to open a window to access anything it doesn’t open, shows the beach ball and forces me to force relaunch it (it says unresponsive when doing so) shortly after safari stopped letting me browse the web and when i tried to open a 3d model in a slicer i clicked on the file and the app completely froze. what do i do
