Impact of continuous charging on iPad battery health

Does leaving the charger connected while using my ipad impact battery health and life? Once the level reaches 100% does it stop charging? Thank you.

Per my reply to your post earlier today...

Your iPad will suffer no ill effects through being connected to its Power Adapter for extended periods. Your iPad will automatically regulate and optimise charging - and will not overcharge the battery.

When used in retail or kiosk applications - where external power is connected for extended periods of time - the iPad may automatically modify its charging strategy and limit battery charge to ~80% of maximum. This modified charging strategy is designed to reduce chemical ageing that might otherwise occur if 100% charge is maintained at all times.

Nominal 100% charging will be restored when a normal charge/discharge routine is restored.

Leaving your iPad connected to a charger is generally safe and won't harm its battery because it automatically stops charging at 100% and draws power directly from the charger during heavy use, but heat from continuous charging and remaining at 100% can degrade battery health over time.

But to prolong battery life, use the 80% Limit feature on newer iPads, unplug it when possible, and avoid letting the battery fully deplete.

Unfortunately, my ipad 10.2”, seventh gen, doesn’t have that feature. My Android phone does, and I’ve set it to charge max 80%.

Your iPad should have the Optimized Charging option and that is what you should have turned on and charge your iPad all night, every night so it can learn your charging behavior. After the learning period, your iPad will only charge to 80% until just before you normally take it off the charger.

To be honest, in my opinion the Charge Limit is not necessary even on the newer devices where it is an option. I still would not recommend using it. Who wants to use a device that is always operating on a 20% depleted battery and reduces use time?

Leaving your device plugged in will reduce the charge cycles as a single charge cycle is actually how many times your battery capacity has been used, not how many times it has been charged.
