Troubleshooting a Locked Mac Account:

A. Wait it Out:

If you can't turn it off, then you'll just have to wait the time allotted.

  1. See here: Passcodes and Passwords - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: How escalating time delays discourage brute-force attacks
  3. Overview: the chart, based on time remaining.

B. Reset this Using the Login Screen:

You'd go through your Apple Account to perform this. Find out more here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support. Make sure that caps lock is NOT enabled when typing it. No Success? Go here: If you can't Reset your Mac Login Password - Apple Support

C. Turning Off the Passcode:

You cannot completely turn off the password on a Mac, but you can set it so that you don't need to enter it every time you wake it from sleep.

  1. Go to: System Settings
  2. Click: Lock Screen
  3. Adjust: the "Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off" option.
