Enable WPA3 pre-shared key authentication on the Wi-Fi router, and pick a robust password with fifteen or more letters and numbers or such, and you’ll be fine.

This if all your gear supports WPA3, and any recent Mac, iPad, or iPhone does.

The “coffee shop” VPNs are overhyped schemes and too often seemingly intended to collect personally-identified metadata. Unless you’re geoshifting for testing a globally-distributed website or a CDN or such, avoid these.

These VPNs add extra connection overhead, and provide negligible additional benefits over using the built-in iCloud+ private relay (available as part of an iCloud+ paid tier) and the existing end-to-end encrypted tunnels. But they’re perfect for collecting your metadata.
