Can I Run a Slideshow with the Screen Visible and the Laptop Locked?

We're attending a large family wedding, and would like to run a slideshow on two different laptops at the same time. One is a 2017 Intel MacBook Air running Monterey, one is an M3 MacBook Pro running Sequoia. For obvious reasons, we would like to have the slideshow running, but require a login if anyone tried to play with either machine. I understand the fundamental conflict this presents; perhaps a solution might involve interrupting the slideshow with the esc key to log in? Or could we display the slideshow on a separate monitor while the laptop screen was locked? Any suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need to do some testing of your set up and see what works and what does not (?)
