apple pencil won't pair with ipad pro m5

Here are what I have tried:

  • full charged the pencil using my 3rd gen ipad pro.
  • paired my 2nd gen apple pencil with my 3rd gen ipad pro to ensure it’s working. it works fine on procreate.
  • I then “forget it” from bluetooth.
  • Attached it to the long side of my new ipad pro m5.-
  • Turned off my ipad pro m5 for few minutes then turned it back on.
  • detached the pencil off the ipad then attached it back to the side.
  • Went to setting/bluetooth. the pencil was not recognized there. Normally when doing that on other ipad a message will pop up showing the percentage of battery charge of the pencil.
  • I have tried so many times but the ipad pro m5 doesn’t seem to even recognize the pencil.
  • Please advise.

Your second generation Apple Pencil is not compatible with the iPad Pro M4 or M5. The iPad Pro M4/M5 support the Apple Pencil Pro and low[er] cost Apple USB-C Pencil.

Here is Apple's definitive compatibility list for Apple Pencil and iPad:

Apple Pencil compatibility - Apple Support

With relocation of the front facing camera to the long edge of the iPad bezel, the internal cavity that was previously occupied by the Pencil's inductive charging system is now used by the camera and its associated sensor array. As a consequence, the charging system for the Pencil has been redesigned/relocated - the compatible Apple Pencils that the iPad supports reflect this design change.
