Lost Documents permission in Finder following a Clean my Mac scan.

Hi folks, updated my MB Pro M1 to Tahoe yesterday and, afterwards, also ran a full scan of Clean my Mac and deleted some background items. The result is that I'm now denied access to Documents and Downloads in Finder. Any ideas?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 26.0

As close to malware as you can get and still call it an app. Some call it <brick my mac>...

<Clean my Mac> excellent marketing campaign with a strong wallet vac.

I would look for some official uninstaller.

You may have to restore your items from a backup...

restore items backed up with Time Machine

Restore items backed up with Time Machine on Mac - Apple Support

Restore your Mac from a backup

General rule of thumb—

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

Uninstall CleanMyMac. Do not use third party apps that claim to clean, protect, etc. Such apps use system resources while providing no benefit, and they may cause problems.

The idea that a third party, with no special knowledge of the inner workings of MacOS, can somehow find a simple way to protect or speed up your computer — that is not already being done by MacOS itself — suggests that the MacOS developers are somehow "holding out on you". That is absurd.

Your exceptionally well-crafted Macintosh computer does not accumulate filth that needs any third-party anything to clean it. Everything needed to run it efficiently was included in the box, except ONE: a drive on which to store a second copy of your files in case the first copy is damaged or deleted by accident. The backup software, Time Machine, is already present -- integrated deeply into MacOS.
