Solved: Airprint not updating new printer name
Hi there
Many people have noticed that IOS Airprint often doesn't update new or changed printer names (see links below). It has nothing to do with network or printer or IOS settings. It is an Icloud sync issue: the old printer name is stored in icloud and this stored value overwrites any new Airprint printer name.
If you log your IOS device out of your Apple account and icloud, your IOS device will immediately show the new and correct Airprint printer name. However, if you connect your device back to your Apple account and icloud, the old printer name will show up again (because it is still stored in icloud).
So what you need to do is to reset and reconnect your icloud. Only then will the new printer name be stored in your icloud and displayed permanently on your IOS device. Perhaps an Apple engineer can tell us what data exactly needs to be reset (e.g. only passwords or Safari data or backups).
Until then, a full icloud reset (including backups) will definitely solve the Airprint printer name issue. Obviously, you need to make sure that you don't lose any data during the reset, i.e. the data has to be stored on your local device or on another device.
After the icloud has been reset and reconnected, you can again sync the data and create backups. Ideally, Apple should fix this issue by ensuring IOS devices always accept current Airprint printer names. Note that this affects both ipads and iphones.
Cheers, James
