Seemingly Lackluster Window/App Controls in Shortcuts on iPadOS 26
Unless I'm missing something, there's two ways to open/tile applications and windows in Shortcuts on iPadOS 26.
- "Open App"
- "Split screen between"
Open app has no option to open a new window of the same app. If you stack the action for the same app it just opens the app, and then focuses and or moves it. Furthermore, each Open App action creates a new Stage in Stage Manager with no options to open all apps in the Shortcut in a single Stage, or to move apps from one Stage to another. Split Screen does allow for opening 2 instances of the same app in a split, but only 2. The split is locked to a single vertical split, as opposed to triggering a 3-way vertical split, or a 4-way ("Quarters") split.
I would expect there be a way to open a specific set of apps in a specific arrangement. With the option to open multiple windows of the same app, multiple unique apps, and or a combination of the two. This should work regardless of if you're using Stage Manager or "Windowed Apps" multitasking modes.
If there's currently a method of accomplishing any of this I'd love to learn about it.
