Can't remove AirTag from Find My on iPhone

I replaced the battery on a AirTag and after that it wouldn't connect in Find My. So I tried resetting the AirTag by taking the battery out 5 times and was able to reconnect it, but it has only appeared in my iPad and Mac - the old AirTag still shows on my iPhone ( but nowhere else). If I try to delete the AirTag from my phone it produces an error and says it cannot connect and can't be removed.

Anyone got any ideas as I now have the AirTag with the new label working on all devices apart from my iPhone and the (same) AirTag with the old label showing on my iPhone and not working?

After a call with Apple support who just suggested an upgrade to iOS26 I found a workaround with a restart of the phone and then trying to rename the AirTag - this failed, but did seem to trigger a resync with the other devices and updated with the working AirTag and removed the old one
