MacBook Pro (M4 Pro, 2024) not recognizing headset via jack adapter

I regularly use my wired headset with my MacBook Pro (2024, M4 Pro) through the headphone jack adapter. Most of the time it works fine, but occasionally the MacBook doesn’t recognize the headset at all. When this happens, both the audio and microphone continue to come from the MacBook’s built-in speakers and mic instead of the headset.

Restarting the laptop usually fixes the problem temporarily, but I’d like to find a permanent solution so I don’t have to reboot every time this occurs.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a reliable fix?

Sounds like a bug if it is intermittent issue...

verify your software is up to date—

The current stable release of Tahoe including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 26.0.1
