Black screen during screen share on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

screen share shows up as a black screen on other party's side. we both have the same IOS. also the issue is NOT with a specific app (i.e media apps like netflix, hulu, etc) the issue is with the whole thing. even the home screen won't show on other party's screen. i'm certain that the issue is not on my side as i can screen share with other people just fine. any ideas on what the issue is? this issue is also consistent through iphone, ipad, and mac.
